The Association of Banks in Cambodia to join the Royal Government to combat the COVID-19 pandemic

Phnom Penh: May 6th 2021, the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) and its members made contributions to support initiatives of the Phnom Penh Capital Hall to contain the spread of COVID-19.

ABC handed over a KHR 10,000,000 contribution along with 23 tons of milled rice, 1,129 packs of canned fish, 5,700 boxes of protective masks, 2,700 bottles of hand sanitizer, and 1,200 liters of alcohol in the presence of H.E. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh City, on May 5 at Phnom Penh Capital Hall. The Association of Banks in Cambodia continues working with its members to make the contribution to the government.

In alignment of the ABC´s Article of Association, point XIV, “To actively participate in social activities and corporate social responsibility programs” among many others, the ABC Council has collectively decided to support the Government by contributing donations in either financial form or material such as milled rice, noodles, fish cans, face masks, hand sanitizer or any other contribution to relief citizens, who are in lockdown and are heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Kingdom.

Phnom Penh Capital Hall governor Khuong Sreng thanked the Association of Banks in Cambodia for the contribution to the city hall in support to the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic. This contribution the Phnom Penh Municipal will use to provide emergency assistance in terms of allowances and food supplies to needy individuals and families under quarantine and in the lockdown areas.

“With this donation, it shows the humanitarian and virtuous gestures, which have really contributed significantly to the Phnom Penh Capital Hall and the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in accordance with the call of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to take action and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Phnom Penh as well as throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia in a timely manner.

“This noble generosity shows the consideration and compassion for our compatriots, based on the cause of national unity as a whole, in the spirit of helping each other in the circumstances that the nation has been facing the danger of the pandemic in Phnom Penh,” he added.

Mr. Heng Koy, General Manager of the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) said that we all have witnessed that our country is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic since the community transmission in February, the so-called Feb 20 community event, the spread and the thereof affected by COVID-19 has yet to slowdown. While new positive COVID-19 cases and the number of fatalities have been reported to increase day by day, more concerns on the public health are raised. Therefore, the contribution will help the Phnom Penh Administration authority to ease the Cambodians burden, who are in need of support during this lockdown.

“We would like to thank to all the members who made the great contribution, and continue working on this to support the government’s initiative to combat the COVID-19,” Koy added.
